In the article the natural and anthropogenic factors determining water quality in the transboundary section of the river Seversky Donets are examined. Peculiarities of the formation of river flows in recent years (2008-2012), which determines the change of hydrochemical characteristics and quality of river water in the annual and long-term modes were identified. Estimation of dynamics of change of water quality of the river Seversky Donets was carried out according to the specific combinatorial water pollution index (SCWPI) and discharge of water quality. As the principal of the actual material the data from the observations of Belgorod center for Hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring and the division of water resources in the Belgorod region of the Don basin water management was used. In the conclusion of this article the specific activities aimed at improving of the quality of state and protection of water resources of the river Seversky Donets in the transboundary section are given.
