In the composition of benthic fauna of the river Yakhroma there have been found 86 species of the organisms belonging to 16 orders. By the environmental characteristics all of them are typical representatives of the fauna of small lowland rivers, most of them are met in stagnant water. Seasonality of benthic fauna of the river is determined by the hydrological regime, seasonal prevalence of aquatic vegetation, and at the same time, conditioned with the cyclicality of its representatives in the ontogeny. The species composition of benthic fauna, most of which are ßand -ß-mesosaprobic organisms, and the values of Pantle Bukka and Vudivissa indices speak of a satisfactory environmental condition of the river Yakhroma on its most length with a tendency for deterioration in the lower reaches of the river.
