An anthropogenic load on rivers located in various natural-climatic areas in Russia is addressed. A methodology for setting limits of anthropogenic load from point pollution sources is discussed. The author views critically existing approaches to determination of maximum permissible discharge of pollutants into water bodies and proposes new ones. Calculations of permissible discharge rates through the current and the new proposed methods are shown using as an example the Saratov reservoir located in the area of discharge of wastewater from the city of Tol’yatti.
The book is recommended to environmentalists and professionals in water protection and use and also to students and postgraduates having environmental specialization.
