This tutorial describes the design logic of open coast spillways at blind dams. It contains recommendations for constructional design and gives examples of hydraulic calculations for different options of frontal overflow spillways in soft ground: with connecting structures, such as fall structures and cantilever-type drops. Short recommendations on how to use calculation software are given as well. 

The tutorial can be used by students for term papers and diploma theses.
