This paper gives information about the joint meeting of the Agricultural Sciences Sub-division at the Central Scientists’ Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the V.V.Dokuchaev Society of Soil Scientists and the International Fund for Slavonic Literature and Culture. The keynote speaker was Prof. Doctor A.S.Yakovlev, Head of Land Resources and Soil Assessment Sub-department, Soil Science Department at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. In his report he addressed the problems in the current state and protection of soils and land in Russian and the ways to involve general and local governments, land users, the public and people from the depth of the country in soil and land protection.
