At present, the irrigation network in the basins of the right-bank tributaries of Amudarya River such as Surkhandarya, Sherabad, Kashkadarya, and the Amudarya itself in the territory of Uzbekistan includes large and small irrigation channels, numerous collector drains and springs (mainly in the Sherabad basin).
The whole vast irrigation system was intensively developed here from 1950 to 1990, when numerous reservoirs, irrigation channels, pump stations, and horizontal and vertical drainage networks were built. By 1980, the network of irrigation channels reached desert areas located primarily in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The authors used the map “Irrigation and Land Reclamation in the Republic of Uzbekistan”, which was published in 2012.
