The paper analyses problems related to development of irrigation in the Altai Krai, gives data about potential and actual irrigated land fund, discusses negative environmental consequences of unrated irrigation and issues of environmental security in this area. It also examines scientifically grounded irrigation norms for various nature-climatic zones of the Altai Krai and gives recommendations on adoption of an environmental approach in irrigated agriculture.
