Authors: Leo M.L. Nollet. Translated from English, Second Edition, edited by Ye.L.Proletarskaya, I.A.Vasilieva
The second edition of the handbook is fully devoted to water analysis, discusses all types of water: freshwater from rivers, lakes, canals, and seawater, as well as groundwater from springs, ditches, drains, and brooks. Most of the chapters describe the physical, chemical, and other relevant properties of water components, and covers sampling, cleanup, extraction and derivatization procedures.
Older techniques that are still frequently used are compared to recently developed techniques. The principles of various tests are described and the following interpretation of the results is given. The reader is also directed to future trends and prospective applications of analysis of water types (potable water, tap water, wastewater, seawater). Reliability of the results, statistical treatment of data, and chemometrical methods are discussed in some chapters. The most topical issues of bacteriological analysis, detection of injurious and toxic substances of domestic, agricultural, and industrial sources, including voltaic organic compounds, surfactants, and plastics residues are covered in the main sections of the handbook.
For the first time, special chapters discuss the separation and analysis of endocrine disrupting compounds, as well as pharmaceutical and personal care products, and plastics residues, respectively. Information is summarized in graphs, tables, examples, and references. All contributors are international experts in the field of water analysis.
This handbook has no analogues in terms of its completeness and coverage in Russia. The handbook will be useful for profile laboratories and water quality control services at industrial projects and public utilities. It is recommended for those dealing with water treatment and purification, as well as for suppliers of analytical systems and devices, researchers, students, and graduate students of relevant specialization.
