The paper gives the short analysis of priority environmental challenges in the transboundary Ural basin and the environmental-geographic characteristics of the Ural River. The opportunity of establishing a single international body for natural resources management in the transboundary Ural basin is assessed in light of historical-geographic, socio-economic, and geopolitical aspects.
