The review addresses the issues related to sustainable development of the water sector.
The water sector refers to infrastructural economic sectors as it provides necessary conditions for production: industry, energy, navigation, municipal sector, agriculture, and fishery. On the other hand, water sector belongs to sectors that utilize natural resources as all its processes are based on the use of water bodies and water flowing in them. Water delivered to consumers quite often can be viewed as a product produced for sale, i.e. as a good. Consequently, in functioning and governance of this sector various economic problems occur (investment, payments, etc.), while sector-specific issue are always comprehensive and require systemic approach.
