The Chinese Government plans to spend about 200 billion yuan (30.1 billion dollars) for projects related to the protection of water resources, writes the China Daily. This indicator is 10% more funds allocated for similar purposes in 2010.
According to the publication, first of all, the funds will be spent on improving the irrigation system and projects to combat drought and floods.
Minister of Water Resources, Chen Lei of China noted that part of investment in this sector may be derived from the 10 per cent of income from leasing land. He also expressed hope that within ten years China will double the amount of funds invested in measures to conserve water resources.
