The Russian double-headed eagle turns its gaze to the East. One of the most significant events of the Russian energy policy in 2010 is the signing of an agreement on strategic partnership between China and Russia.

The signing was timed for the September Dmitry Medvedev's visit to China and to launch the pipeline “Skovorodino – Datsin”.

Russia wants to strengthen energy relations not only with China, but also with other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, which is associated with a desire to diversify risks in the international energy market, attract investment and technology needed to modernize the national economy, to strengthen Russia's weight in the international arena as energy and scientific power.
