With each year the problem of water supply in Ulyanovsk becomes more acute. Last week Komsomolskaya Pravda has already written that the water level in the Volga River has decreased to a mark of 49.9 meters and experts predict that by April it will fall more than a meter. To date according to the regional meteorologist, this index is 49 meters! - This level of water in the Kuibyshevskoe reservoir at 1.05 meters below the target, which was celebrated at this time last year and corresponds to the very dry 1995, - says the Lower Volga Basin Water Management of the Federal Agency of Water Resources. - Useful water supplies in the Kuibyshevskoe Reservoir, which is the main regulator of the runoff in the Volga basin, accounted for 37 percent of its usable space. However, a circulating lately about "the transformation of much of the Volga and other rivers of the basin in the marsh" is untrue. Water situation in the Middle and Lower Volga is tense but manageable. Measures to establish optimal operating conditions of water reservoirs of the Voljsko-Kamskiy cascade is provided and will meet the needs of water sector. Meanwhile, water quality in the Volga also leaves much to be desired. Hydrochemical situation has deteriorated in a number of indicators of contaminants in comparison with 2008. - In 2005-2008 the water quality of Kuibyshevskiy reservoir in Ulyanovsk region was evaluated as "very polluted", while the 2009th - a "dirty" class "4 A", - said Tatyana Akhmedeeva, Head of Laboratory Research "Ulyanovsk Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring" . - Typical pollutants are compounds of copper, zinc, iron, total, mineral oil, phenol, nitrogen ammoniny, nitrogen nitriny. As a result of this year, preliminary analysis has shown - on water quality the trend of 2009. According to the director MUE Ulyanovskvodokanal Sergey Saveliev, the company carried out to improve the quality of drinking water.
