As became traditional since 2007, on 16th September 2010 the Seversk-Donets Basin Department of Water Resources together with the community organization “SEVERSK DONETS – VOZROJDENIYE (Revival)” and with the support of the Environmental Agency held the Seversk Donets Day under the slogan “The Seversk Donets River has no frontiers”!    

The celebration involved a number of events, including an international scientific-practical conference, the exhibition of achievements in area of water supply, waste treatment, and water protection in Kharkov, Donets, and Lugansk provinces, and an exhibition from the creative contest “Seversk Donets – through the eyes of the youth”, which was held before the Seversk Donets Day.

More than 500 invitations were sent to provincial and local governments, environmental agencies, water user organizations, provincial water authorities, research and non-governmental organizations, educational institutions in Ukraine, as well as to partner organizations in the Russian Federation.

The focus of the conference was on the water situation in the Seversk Donets basin, the activities of the Seversk-Donets Basin Department of Water Resources, on a need to raise public awareness about local water sources and water use,  water quantity and quality, and the future objectives.

An award was established on the occasion of the Seversk Donets Day for individual contribution of officials, specialists, and citizens in Predontsovie to restoration of water resources in the Seversk Donets river basin, dissemination and popularization of information about status of water, as well as to patriotic upbringing.
A number of persons, including representatives from public utilities, national nature reserve “Saint Mountains”, Donets branch of the State Ecological Academy, etc.

On the 17th September, the study tour to the structures of the Seversk Donets river basin was organized for the guests and participants of the conference.

In the end, the interest demonstrated by the Ukrainian public authorities, the general public, youth organizations and mass media to the events of the Day and the massive publicity give promise that this tradition of the Seversk Donets Day celebrations will be continued in the future.
