The article describes the structure, operations and techniques of modern GIS firmware as applied to satellite-based monitoring of agricultural lands. These GIS services are essentially based on automated interpretation of satellite remote sensing data. They provide users with reliable current and historical information on vegetation and soil cover. The data thus generated are applied to precision farming and far exceed the results of traditional monitoring.
